Why are you hearing so much about Sarasota and Where is Sarasota?

I was recently at an event in Orlando and someone asked me, ” I have heard so much about your town, but Where is Sarasota?”

It’s easy to forget that not everyone is familiar with the ins and outs of your hometown. I’ve noticed more people asking about Sarasota lately, so today let’s explore why it’s such a special place and what draws people to want to learn more about it.

SO WHERE IS SARASOTA?

To begin with, Sarasota is located along the Florida Gulf Coast. We are located just South of Tampa and North of Fort Myers. We are a little less known than both of these gulf coast cities but we have definitely been discovered.

Ideally located between these bustling cities Sarasota is much less metropolitan and much more cosmopolitan. However, Sarasota County and Manatee counties do make up this area and have a population of over 1 million.

SO MANY AIRPORT

Sarasota is a convenient travel destination because it’s close to three major airports: Tampa International Airport, Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, and St. Petersburg–Clearwater International Airport. That means you can fly into any of these airports and be just a short drive away from Sarasota.

Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is the closest to Sarasota and is located just 10 miles from downtown Sarasota.

Tampa International Airport is about 45 minutes from Sarasota, while St. Petersburg–Clearwater International Airport is about an hour away.

KEYS AND BEACHES

The Sarasota city limits contain several keys, including Lido Key, St. Armands Key, Otter Key, and Casey Key. Another great feature of where Sarasota is located is access to 30 miles of beaches. Sarasota has a number of keys or barrier islands that provide year-round fun and amazing beaches.

Longboat Key

Lido Key

Siesta Key

Venice Beach and

Manasota Key

Each of these islands is unique in its lifestyle, feel of the sand, size of the beaches, and also density. One thing is certain they all provide ideal sunsets. And if you want to explore just a few other beaches within 90 minutes you can be at Captiva, Sanibel, Clearwater, and many others.

THE CULTURAL COAST

Sarasota is appropriately nicknamed the Cultural Coast because of the abundance of cultural activities and attractions. There are 12 museums, including the Ringling Museum of Art and the Sarasota Opera House.

The Sarasota Orchestra, Asolo Repertory Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre, and Players Theatre all call Sarasota home. Sarasota is also home to Sarasota Ballet and the Sarasota French Film Festival.

SO MUCH TO DO!

If you’re looking for things to do in Sarasota, you won’t be disappointed. We have plenty of activities to keep you busy. One of our most popular pastimes is boating. With a number of marinas and neighborhoods with private canals, it’s easy to get out on the water and enjoy all that Sarasota has to offer. Alternitavely, you can spend the day kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding on one of our beautiful beaches or hiking through Myakka River State Park.

If you’re looking for a little more action, Sarasota is also home to the Baltimore Orioles spring training, Sarasota Kennel Club, and Ed Smith Stadium. And we can’t forget about the Ringling Bridge!

There’s truly something for everyone in Sarasota. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing beach vacation or an action-packed adventure, Sarasota is the perfect place for you.

PRO SPORTS

For all you sports fans out there, we are less than an hour away from the hometowns of the Super Bowl Champs Tampa Bay Buccaneers and World Cup winners Tampa Bay Lightning. Not to mention, we’re also close to where the Rays play. So come on down and enjoy everything that our city has to offer!

FINE DINING

Sarasota is not only home to some of Florida’s best restaurants, but more Zagat award-winning eateries than any other city in the state of Florida.

SARASOTA IS PERFECT FOR ALL AGES

One misunderstanding about Sarasota is that it is just for retirees or empty nesters over 60. That is absolutely not the case as Sarasota County has the second highest-ranked schools in the state of Florida and provides year-round activities for those of all ages.

Sarasota is perfect for anyone.

POPULAR SUBURBS

Recently, Sarasota has experienced a population boom causing the city to expand in both size and scope. Some well-known suburbs are Bradenton, Venice, and the multi-generational neighborhood of Lakewood Ranch. What sets LWR apart is that it continues to develop new villages even today. If you’re looking for recent housing developments, then this is definitely the area for you.

AMAZING CLIMATE

If you love warm weather, you will find another reason to adore this city. The average temperature during winter is a balmy 70 degrees, with only a few days in the high 50s and overnight lows no lower than the pleasant 50-degree mark. From May through September, summertime temps are usually about 90 degrees.
